The archive begins when the official lecture ends

What should the archive hear?
An owl built to index lectures begins recording the questions asked after the lecturer leaves. Its memory fills with conversations the official archive never kept.
Choose the student's question when a recording device begins to expose the archive's bias. The lecture schedule supplies a change that readers can measure. A familiar nickname allows someone to ask the owl about its preference rather than merely reset it.
A mechanical owl can be an observer with a bias rather than a neutral recording device. Give its designation a familiar nickname. A name becomes personal when someone asks what it wants to remember.
A recording has a selection rule
The owl's original purpose privileged the prepared speech. Its new attention reveals questions that the institution did not count as part of knowledge. Give the mechanism a way to indicate what it is keeping, so people can discuss participation instead of unknowingly becoming archive material. A workshop designation can identify the device, while a familiar name recognizes its developing preference. The creature should be asked about memory rather than simply reset whenever its record becomes inconvenient.
Informal discussion uses finite storage
The memory ledger removes recording use and decay through the transfer interval, protecting space for an untransferred session. A whole gathering consumes more than questions alone. The units are invented, not a specification for actual recording technology. A shortfall can motivate credited transfers, a narrower scope, or a discussion about what should not be kept. The story should not assume every valuable conversation becomes more valuable when stored indefinitely.
The next lecture can leave room deliberately
Ending the prepared talk early recognizes the questions without requiring the owl to stage another rebellion. Let a student request that a private exchange remain unrecorded. An earned afterword-name can include respect for that choice. A later cataloguer should be able to find both the lecture and the discussion with their contributors identified. The creature then participates in an institution that can revise itself, not merely reveal a charming flaw while the old archive continues unchanged.
