The instruction changed because the garden did

What changes the instruction?
A garden golem has become too heavy with moss to follow its original path. The gardener discovers it has been carrying seeds to a dry corner nobody waters.
Choose the new need when the construct's growth should become an intention. The dry corner supplies observable evidence. A personal name records what the golem has learned to care about, rather than reducing it to the maker's original instruction.
A golem name can emerge from what it does after its creation. Moss marks duration and dependence on place. Give the construct a name that belongs to it rather than merely its maker.
Slow growth is evidence of time spent somewhere
The golem's moss affects weight, shade, and how the body moves through its original path. Give the dry corner a history the gardener has overlooked rather than making neglect an abstract failing. The creature has been carrying seeds there repeatedly, allowing intention to be inferred from a pattern. A workshop designation can preserve its making, while a personal name refers to what it has begun choosing. The gardener need not control both names forever.
Tending draws from a finite store
The garden model removes water use and evaporation along the refill interval, then checks a seedling reserve. Expanding care to another bed increases obligation before the route is changed. These are invented tending units, not horticultural guidance. Use the time series to locate where the gardener can support the golem: another refill, a shaded path, or a smaller first plot. Patient labor should not become an excuse for treating the creature's capacity as limitless.
A new path can recognize an existing choice
Let the altered route be practical enough that the golem no longer damages the lawn to reach its bed. An earned root-name can then refer to a contribution already made, not permission the maker has just invented. The next season might bring another preference the gardener must learn to notice. A creature becomes more than an obedient machine when the setting can change around its decisions while still preserving the material limits that make those decisions costly.
