NAME WORKSHOP

Shape the identity

Start with a tradition and a temperament. Each candidate has four separate name forms. All generation runs in your browser.

Your first introduction
Identity, reputation & story
Sound & spelling constraints
Batch size & repeatable seed

Identical settings and seed reproduce the batch. Restrictive filters can return fewer names; duplicates are never added to fill a batch.

Will readers confuse these names?

A name works in company, not only on its own. Compare the generated candidates with the people, places or objects already in your project. This local check flags shared spellings, three-letter openings and one-letter differences; it does not infer pronunciation or search the internet. Your reference list stays in this tab and is not added to saved names or exports.

Floating City: roots & naming customs

All root meanings and naming customs below are invented creative associations, not translations or claims of historical authenticity.

An airy name can hide the needs of the people living beneath the city.

Three naming approaches for floating city

These are reproducible outputs from this workshop, shown before you change any settings. Compare what belongs in everyday speech, a public record, or an older ceremonial identity. Each example lists the exact community, era, temperament, standing and seed that produced it. Try a preset to inspect its other candidates; these examples are fictional constructions rather than historical attestations.

      An everyday introduction

      Residents at the well: lift
Wild frontier · Reflective · Established
      Seed: field-notes-1
Core length: Short (up to 6 letters)

      Mooel
      Formal: Mooel Floating City
      Alias: Dawn Mooring
      Founding lineage: Skyreford
Mooel uses root contraction: moo + el. Moor → mooring. Residents contract a landmark root; travelers pair landmarks in route order; survey styles put the second landmark first. A practical root and an easily repeated ending suit a traveling community. Adjacent identical boundary letters are merged. The mixed ending is a fictional style, not a statement about the bearer's gender.
      A public record

Travelers on the road: sky berth
Civic · Resolute · Office holder
      Seed: field-notes-2
      Core length: Long (7+ letters)

      Skyria
      Formal: Chartered Skyreaervia Floating City
      Alias: Returning Sky berth
      Founding lineage: Aervaian
Skyreaervia uses linked two-root compound: skyre + aerv + ia. Skyrel → sky berth; Aerval → lift. Residents contract a landmark root; travelers pair landmarks in route order; survey styles put the second landmark first. A compact root with a register-like ending suits a fictional civic record. Adjacent identical boundary letters are merged. The mixed ending is a fictional style, not a statement about the bearer's gender.
      An older ceremonial identity

      Surveyors in the hall: mooring
      Mythic · Guarded · Veteran
      Seed: field-notes-3
      Core length: Long (7+ letters)

      Moorsa
      Formal: Old Mooreskyresa Floating City
      Alias: Dawn Mooring
      Founding lineage: Skyrestead
Mooreskyresa uses reversed two-root ceremonial compound: moor + e + skyre + s + a. Moor → mooring; Skyrel → sky berth. Residents contract a landmark root; travelers pair landmarks in route order; survey styles put the second landmark first. Open vowels and extended endings suit a remembered oral tradition. Adjacent identical boundary letters are merged. The mixed ending is a fictional style, not a statement about the bearer's gender.

An airy name can hide the needs of the people living beneath the city.

Everyday speech, formal records and earned aliases have different jobs. Select a naming community to change root order and construction; choose a world texture to change the register ending. A family or lineage remains separate from an optional public alias.

Descent Plaza: a fictional mooring-load model

The fictional landing has a modeled mooring margin without concealing its contact load. Change the assumptions to see where this stops being true.

      Scenario quantities
      Decisions that alter the calculation
Stress tests, sensitivity, and feasible plans
Decisions the feasible-plan search may change

The search keeps other quantities fixed, tests only permitted decisions, and shows the quantity it changes. A feasible plan satisfies this model; it is not an overall judgment about the story.

A transparent fictional planning model. Its factors are editable story assumptions, not measured forecasts or professional advice. The run is also included in the name dossiers above.

A city above somebody else's roof

Lorafeed · Original fiction and workshop notes · November 2, 2026

      What keeps the city aloft?

The floating city's annual descent is canceled after a survey discovers a settlement beneath its shadow. The landing plaza has been somebody else's roof for three generations.

Choose the settlement below when wonder needs a second viewpoint. A ticket-name may celebrate height while a neighbor's name records shadow. The mooring tower supplies a shared location where those descriptions can become a negotiation.

A city name should have both a civic form and the shortened version used on tickets. Height can mean separation as well as wonder. Let the name reveal what the city owes to the ground.

      A panoramic name has a ground-level reader

The floating city's official title may celebrate height, freedom, or a founding ascent. The settlement below experiences a scheduled shadow and the threat of a landing plaza. Give its residents a name for the city that visiting mapmakers have never recorded. Neither label must explain everything. A ticket seller needs a short destination, while a joint council needs a form that does not quietly grant one community ownership of the other's sky. Naming becomes a negotiation about use rather than a contest for the most beautiful compound.

Descent has a contact load in the fiction

The mooring model compares fictional capacity with landing footprint, anchor condition, and loss. Its units do not certify any real structure. A broad ceremonial plaza can increase demand while neglected lower connections reduce support. Compare a jointly maintained compact landing with the inherited arrangement. A negative margin gives the city a reason to postpone descent and ask what work the settlement will accept. Magic should not erase the people occupying the surfaces on which the drawing says it rests.

The mooring tower can become a shared address

A new local name may emerge from the meeting halfway between communities. Let residents explain how invitations, delivery routes, and emergency contacts will work afterward. The title can remain grand on distant charts while an everyday form records the new relationship. The next annual descent should test the agreement under a different condition. A city feels inhabited when its name is attached to continuing obligations that a visitor can ask about, not only a spectacular view seen once from a safe distance.

      Mooring state
Jointly maintained · Ordinary service · Neglected anchors
      Landing footprint
Compact landing · Wide public plaza · Uneven roof contact
      Lost anchorage
All anchors known · One weak connection · Unsurveyed lower roof
