NAME WORKSHOP

Shape the identity

Start with a tradition and a temperament. Each candidate has four separate name forms. All generation runs in your browser.

Your first introduction
Identity, reputation & story
Sound & spelling constraints
Batch size & repeatable seed

Identical settings and seed reproduce the batch. Restrictive filters can return fewer names; duplicates are never added to fill a batch.

Your candidates

Will readers confuse these names?

A name works in company, not only on its own. Compare the generated candidates with the people, places or objects already in your project. This local check flags shared spellings, three-letter openings and one-letter differences; it does not infer pronunciation or search the internet. Your reference list stays in this tab and is not added to saved names or exports.

Candle Sprite: roots & naming customs

All root meanings and naming customs below are invented creative associations, not translations or claims of historical authenticity.

A flame nickname should not imply the sprite is safe to touch.

Three naming approaches for candle sprite

These are reproducible outputs from this workshop, shown before you change any settings. Compare what belongs in everyday speech, a public record, or an older ceremonial identity. Each example lists the exact community, era, temperament, standing and seed that produced it. Try a preset to inspect its other candidates; these examples are fictional constructions rather than historical attestations.

Gliror uses root contraction: gli + r + or. Glimm → small glow. Contact names favor a small call unit; observers link behavior and habitat, while field designations reverse their order. A practical root and an easily repeated ending suit a traveling community. Adjacent identical boundary letters are merged. The mixed ending is a fictional style, not a statement about the bearer's gender.

Taligliel uses linked two-root compound: tal + i + gli + el. Tallow → tallow; Glimm → small glow. Contact names favor a small call unit; observers link behavior and habitat, while field designations reverse their order. A compact root with a register-like ending suits a fictional civic record. Adjacent identical boundary letters are merged. The mixed ending is a fictional style, not a statement about the bearer's gender.

Taliwicsel uses reversed two-root ceremonial compound: tal + i + wic + s + el. Tallow → tallow; Wickel → wick. Contact names favor a small call unit; observers link behavior and habitat, while field designations reverse their order. Open vowels and extended endings suit a remembered oral tradition. Adjacent identical boundary letters are merged. The mixed ending is a fictional style, not a statement about the bearer's gender.

A flame nickname should not imply the sprite is safe to touch.

Everyday speech, formal records and earned aliases have different jobs. Select a naming community to change root order and construction; choose a world texture to change the register ending. A family or lineage remains separate from an optional public alias.

Last Stairwell: a small flame's useful reach

The idealized lamp positions reach the stair corridor the sprite keeps choosing. Change the assumptions to see where this stops being true.

      Decisions that alter the calculation
Stress tests, sensitivity, and feasible plans
Decisions the feasible-plan search may change

The search keeps other quantities fixed, tests only permitted decisions, and shows the quantity it changes. A feasible plan satisfies this model; it is not an overall judgment about the story.

A transparent fictional planning model. Its factors are editable story assumptions, not measured forecasts or professional advice. The run is also included in the name dossiers above.

The smallest flame keeps choosing the same dark stair

Lorafeed · Original fiction and workshop notes · November 2, 2026

      What deserves the last flame?

A sprite moves from lamp to lamp after the city replaces its street candles. The night watch discovers it has been keeping one dangerous stairwell lit.

The stairwell makes the sprite's preference publicly useful. Choose safe passage when the last flame needs a concrete purpose. A tiny familiar name can fit the limited scale of the creature without making its contribution insignificant.

A tiny spirit's name should fit a short exchange. Wax suggests limited resources; wick suggests connection. A specific practical task makes the creature more memorable than a general fondness for glowing objects.

A useful preference is still a preference

The sprite's return to the stairwell can be observed before anyone knows why it matters. Give it a resting place and a response to being moved. Replacing street candles need not be a mistake; the new system can work well while missing one awkward landing. A short wick-like name should fit a quiet call. The creature does not need a grand last-of-its-kind title to make its small contribution worth noticing.

Light needs positions, not just intensity

The stair model compares lamp radius, enclosure, overlap, and turning obstructions. Several lights on the upper landing can leave lower steps outside the modeled span. The calculation is an invented staging aid, not a real lighting or safety assessment. Use the uncovered section to decide where a new lantern belongs. The answer should require somebody to maintain it rather than simply appoint the sprite to an endless unpaid watch because it already seems willing.

      Make the new home optional

The lantern can offer a suitable place without imprisoning the creature inside its usefulness. Let the sprite leave occasionally and let the watch have a procedure that still works. An earned step-name can be affectionate rather than an official job description. The next encounter might show a resident bringing a repair or a different color of glass. A reciprocal relationship lets the creature remain more than the charming missing component of an otherwise complete civic system.

Last Stairwell: a small flame's useful reach

      Flame enclosure
Opaque lantern · Clear sheltered pane · Open reflected niche
      Position overlap
Separate landings · Some repeated steps · Same upper landing
      Stair obstruction
Open rail · Turning flight · Closed inner landing

A new lantern gives the sprite a home without requiring the city to abandon its improvements.
